Find your starting point

Do more than sit on the edge or briefly lie on your back. Try your normal sleeping positions, turn over, and notice how your shoulders, hips, and lower back feel. If you share a bed, test the finalists together.

We start with what you want to change

  • What are you sleeping on now, and what do you like or dislike?
  • Do you usually sleep on your side, back, stomach, or a combination?
  • Where do you notice pressure or discomfort?
  • Do you sleep warm or notice your partner moving?
  • Do you prefer a body-hugging feel or an easier-to-move-on surface?
  • What size, budget, and existing bed base are we working with?

From there, we choose a starting point and ask for feedback. Comparing two noticeably different feels can be more useful than trying a long row of similar mattresses.

How our mattress brands feel different

These are starting points for comparison. The exact model and firmness matter more than the brand name alone.

Tempur-Pedic

Start here if you enjoy close contouring and a more settled, body-hugging sensation. Compare how the material conforms around you and how movement feels when your partner turns over. Hybrid versions add spring responsiveness. Someone who dislikes a slow-conforming feel should compare the hybrid and other constructions before deciding.

Aireloom

Start here if you want cushioned comfort with a more buoyant spring-supported feel. Aireloom Lift combines its chamber construction with responsive support underneath the comfort layers. We compare how comfortably your shoulders and hips settle while the mattress supports the rest of your body. Materials and cushioning vary by model.

Vispring

Start here if you value natural upholstery, traditional craftsmanship, and pocket-spring support. The spring tension and upholstery combination influence the feel, so choosing the right tension is important. It offers a different experience from slow-conforming foam; customers looking specifically for a memory-foam hug may prefer another construction.

Stearns & Foster

Start here if you enjoy a familiar upholstered mattress feel combining spring support with cushioned comfort. Different tops and firmness options change that experience substantially. Selected models include TEMPUR-Indulge foam, but that does not make them feel the same as a Tempur-Pedic.

We help you compare these differences rather than declare one brand best for everyone.

Softness and support are different

A mattress can feel plush on top while still supporting you underneath. During a comparison, we ask whether your shoulders and hips feel comfortably cushioned, whether your lower back feels supported, and whether turning over feels natural. We also consider body build and your usual sleeping position.

Common buying mistakes we help you avoid

  • Assuming the firmest mattress provides the best support.
  • Treating “Medium” as the same feel across every brand.
  • Choosing from a quick sit or hand press.
  • Buying a higher-priced mattress without identifying what feels better.
  • Overlooking the pillow, foundation, or finished bed height.

A showroom trial helps narrow the choice, but it cannot reproduce an entire night at home.

Choosing a mattress together

Each person first identifies what feels comfortable independently. Then we look for shared preferences instead of automatically choosing a compromise neither person likes.

If preferences differ substantially, we can explore separate mattresses in a split setup or model-specific options for different tensions within one mattress. The available choices depend on the brand, model, and size.

Consider the whole bed

Pillow

Compare an appropriate pillow so head and neck positioning do not distract from evaluating the mattress.

Topper

Consider one when the underlying mattress feels supportive but the surface needs more cushioning. A topper will not repair a worn-out support system.

Adjustable base

Consider it if you want adjustable positioning and the exact mattress is approved for that use.

Divan or foundation

Compare the manufacturer-recommended support system. A sprung divan can contribute to the overall feel.

Accessories should solve a specific need. They do not need to be part of every purchase.

Side-by-side comparison

Compare mattress models

Compare construction and current Queen starting prices below. Queen prices use the lowest listed Queen variant, not a Twin starting price. Other sizes, feels, bases and special-order choices may change the total.

Start with the feel you want

TEMPUR foam emphasizes contouring; Aireloom combines latex and wrapped coils; Vispring uses natural upholstery over pocket springs; Stearns & Foster pairs coils with foam and several top styles. These are construction differences, not universal comfort rankings.

Sources and specification notes

Materials & construction

Foam contouring

TEMPUR comfort materials conform to the sleeper. Medium Hybrid variants add a spring support system; compare their response when changing position, not just the firmness label.

Latex and microcoils

Aireloom’s TerraPur latex is a comfort material. Its wrapped support coils sit deeper in the construction; microcoils are additional smaller comfort layers in selected models. Counts from different layer types are not directly equivalent.

Natural upholstery

Vispring uses materials such as wool, cotton and horsetail, with different blends by model. Tiara and Cashmere have two spring layers; Masterpiece has three. Spring tension and upholstery both contribute to the feel.

Standard top and pillow top

A pillow top adds an upholstery section above the mattress body. It does not automatically mean Soft: several models offer a firmer pillow-top feel. Reserve Duet’s removable, reversible top is a separate design choice.

Cooling materials and powered airflow

Cool-to-touch covers, ventilated layers and natural fibers are passive approaches. ActiveBreeze requires its compatible powered base. Compare the system requirements and your room conditions rather than treating every cooling claim as the same measurement.

Profile and finished bed height

The mattress profile excludes most foundations and frames. Vispring lists the mattress body and doming separately with a tolerance. Confirm the complete height and sheet fit, especially for deeper pillow-top constructions.

When is a higher-priced mattress worth it?

A higher price can reflect more costly materials, additional construction layers, handwork, customization, or specialized features. Those differences are worth considering when they provide comfort, functionality, or craftsmanship you personally value.

We encourage you to compare within your budget and identify the difference you can actually appreciate. A more expensive mattress is not automatically the better fit.

We offer interest-free financing options and a 90-day price-match guarantee. Ask us for the applicable eligibility requirements and terms.

We provide the terms for the actual Healing Touch purchase rather than assuming a manufacturer’s online offer applies.

Useful answers

Mattress buying FAQs

How should I compare mattresses from different brands?

Compare the same size, then separate comfort materials, support construction and feel. A Medium from one brand may feel different from another. Try your usual sleeping position and check ease of movement before choosing.

What is the difference between foam, hybrid and pocket-spring mattresses?

Foam mattresses use foam comfort and support layers. Hybrids combine foam or other comfort materials with springs. Traditional pocket-spring mattresses can use natural upholstery over individually encased springs. The complete construction matters more than the category name alone.

Is a more expensive mattress always firmer or better for me?

No. Price can reflect materials, craftsmanship and additional construction layers. It does not establish the right feel for every sleeper. Compare the same tension or firmness, then decide which differences you actually prefer.

How do cooling materials differ from ActiveBreeze airflow?

Breeze mattresses use cooling covers and materials. ActiveBreeze uses a compatible ProSmart Air base to move air through the mattress and provide separate climate controls. Natural fibers and ventilated coils are different approaches again; none guarantees the same result for every room or sleeper.

Are comparison prices for the same size?

The comparison table shows the lowest current Queen variant price in our store where a Queen variant exists. Product cards may show a lower starting price for another size. Check your selected size, feel and included components before comparing totals.

Should I flip or rotate my mattress?

Follow the exact manufacturer care guide. Tempur-Pedic mattresses should not be flipped. Aireloom recommends head-to-foot rotation rather than flipping. Vispring has turning guidance for its upholstered mattresses. Reserve Duet’s reversible topper is distinct from the mattress underneath.

What delivery, exchange and warranty help does Healing Touch offer?

We provide local white-glove delivery and can arrange old-mattress removal; extra fees may apply depending on size, distance and access requirements. Eligible mattresses may be exchanged within the applicable exchange period; floor models and custom orders are excluded. Confirm the exchange window, conditions and any charges before purchase. We can submit a warranty service ticket on your behalf, while the manufacturer handles evaluation, coverage decisions and the claims process.
